US announces additional security assistance for Ukraine

The US Department of Defence has announced a new military assistance package for Ukraine. The package is designed to meet Ukraine's critical needs and is estimated to be worth $425 million. The funds will be provided through the PDA programme - direct delivery from US Army stocks.

This was reported on the website of the US Department of Defence. 

According to the White House, the new US aid package includes additional air defence equipment, air-to-ground munitions, armoured vehicles and 'critical munitions to meet Ukraine's urgent needs'.

The package also includes additional NASAMS MANPADS, RIM-7 surface-to-air missiles and air defence support, Stinger surface-to-air missiles, HIMARS ammunition, and 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds. Ukraine will also receive TOW MANPADS, Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems and HMMWVs. As well as other weapons, equipment, ammunition and maintenance supplies, etc.

In addition, the White House press release on the Biden-Zelenskyy phone call notes that the United States intends to provide Ukraine with additional weapons in the 'coming months', including 'hundreds of interceptors' for air defence systems, 'dozens' of tactical air defence systems, additional artillery systems, 'a significant amount of ammunition, hundreds of armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, as well as thousands of additional armoured vehicles'.
