On Saturday, December 7, 2024, a unique weaving workshop was held in the library gallery of the Ukrainian History and Education Center (UHEC) in Somerset, New Jersey. Under the guidance of artisan Halyna Shepko, participants had the opportunity to learn the traditions of Ukrainian craftsmanship by mastering loom weaving and creating their own traditional Ukrainian selvedges and belts.

Throughout the day, participants not only learned weaving techniques, but also immersed themselves in the process of creating reproductions of ancient Ukrainian belts. Authentic tools and wool specially brought from Ukraine were used for the work.
The master class was not only an educational but also a creative process that brought together lovers of folk art in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
"Weaving together in a circle on the bierdechki is something special! We had one day to prepare the warp and weave the small edges," said Halyna Shepko.
This workshop not only popularized Ukrainian handicraft traditions, but also gave the participants a sense of belonging to a great cultural heritage.
