During the meeting in the Oval Office between Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump, a heated dispute broke out. This event resonated widely within the international community, with analysts and media discussing the potential consequences of the incident for future relations between Ukraine and the United States.
European leaders—most notably French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Donald Tusk, have agreed support for Ukraine and condemned Trump’s behavior during the meeting. They stressed the importance of preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty and continuing support from the international community. Moreover, after the unsuccessful negotiations in the US, foreign leaders and politicians began referring to Zelenskyy as a hero and Trump as a coward.
Analysts note that this situation could affect further military support for Ukraine from the US. Trump is considering the possibility of halting current military aid, including the supply of ammunition and equipment. Such statements in the media have raised concerns among Ukrainian and European politicians, who stress that maintaining support is critical for ensuring Ukraine’s defense capabilities in its confrontation with russia.
In response to Trump’s accusations of an unwillingness to achieve peace, Zelenskyy saidthat he has always been grateful to the United States for the assistance provided. He emphasized that Ukraine seeks a just peace, but is not ready to compromise in ways that could harm its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Zelenskyy also has expressed his desire for the American leader to support Ukraine more clearly in its conflict with russia, rather than taking a neutral stance.
Following the incident in the US, Zelenskyy arrived in London to participate in a summit of European leaders organized by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The main topic of discussion was supporting Ukraine and ensuring its security amid the ongoing aggression by russia. Most European leaders expressed solidarity with Ukraine and a readiness to provide the necessary assistance.
