The Ukraine House in Washington, D.C. hosted the opening of the exhibition 'Ukraine Before the War: Nature Paintings by David Miretsky'. The renowned Ukrainian-American artist presented a series of fifteen previously unseen landscapes depicting the beauty of Ukraine before the full-scale invasion by Russia in 2022.
This was reported by Ukraine House.
The paintings demonstrate Miretsky's unique style - a harmonious combination of colour and composition that conveys the unique atmosphere of Ukrainian nature. In times of war, these works take on even greater symbolic significance, reminding us that the beauty of Ukraine and its spirit remain unbroken.
David Miretsky was born in Kyiv in 1939 and experienced numerous hardships due to the anti-Jewish policies of the Soviet government. Despite these obstacles, he entered the Kyiv Art Institute, where his talent was quickly recognized. Miretskyi was also an active campaigner for human rights, for which he was repeatedly persecuted and arrested, particularly for his participation in the Babyn Yar protests.
The artist eventually emigrated to the United States, where he found freedom of expression. His works have been exhibited in prestigious galleries around the world, and some are in the National Art Museum of Ukraine.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by connoisseurs of the artist's work, cultural figures and diplomats. The organisers thanked Ellendea and Ross Teasley for their help in organising the event and Nellie Belin, the owner of this private collection, for the opportunity to show these unique works to the public.
The exhibition will run until the end of April, so there is still time for everyone to enjoy these unique Ukrainian landscapes.
