Spring festival in support of Ukrainian education organized in the US capital

On Saturday, Washington, D.C., hosted the Spring Festival & Fundraiser, organised by the Taras Shevchenko School of Ukrainian Studies (Ukrainian School DC) in partnership with Ukraine House. This vibrant and inspiring event combined Ukrainian culture, delicious food, children's entertainment, and most importantly, support for Ukrainian education.

This was reported by Ukrainian School DC.

The aim of the festival was to raise funds for scholarships for children from families forced to leave Ukraine due to the war.

"It was a celebration of children's smiles and Ukrainian culture. Despite the difficult times, we do not stop. Because children are our future. They are the future scientists, artists and leaders who will build a new, strong Ukraine," said Oksana Markarova, Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, in her speech at the event.

Guests were treated to an eventful programme that combined charity, creativity and gastronomy. The programme included a book fair where people could buy or donate books in Ukrainian, a charity sale of embroidered shirts, numerous workshops for children, Ukrainian food and a large concert featuring students who gave a spectacular performance. The event also featured unique handicrafts and souvenirs made by local artisans.

The organisers thanked everyone who contributed to the event. Special thanks were extended to the school's principal, Natalia Gavdyda, the teaching staff, the parents' community and many partners, including St Andrews Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, the Ukrainian Self-Reliance Federal Credit Union and Anatoliy Murha personally, for their significant financial contribution to the school's development.

"Development through education and Ukrainian culture and its dissemination among our American friends is an integral part of our victory," Markarova concluded.
