The annual Community Cultures Fest is a celebration of the local community's cultural diversity. It took place in downtown Wausau, Wisconsin. During this large-scale event, the Ukrainian community presented its culture and raised funds to support Ukraine.
This was reported by the Wisconsin Ukrainians Inc.
The Community Cultures Fest took place in the central 400 Block neighborhood. Despite the inclement weather, dozens of organizations presented their communities' cultures through art, music, dance, cuisine, and traditions throughout the day.
The program began with a flag-raising ceremony by the Hmong Veterans Organization. The event organizers, Mosaic of North Central WI, the Indian Society of Central Wisconsin, and the Hmong American Center, performed on stage throughout the day. Ukraine was represented at the event by the Wisconsin Ukrainians volunteer organization.
The Ukrainian tent attracted many guests, where visitors could purchase handicrafts, chat with volunteers, and have their faces painted by a talented artist. Community representatives had heartfelt conversations with visitors who expressed support, shared stories, and showed solidarity with Ukraine.
"It was a wonderful day dedicated to representing Ukraine at the Cultural Communities Festival in Wausau, Wisconsin, as well as raising funds to support Ukraine. Rain or shine, nothing can stop us from celebrating the richness of our community! We are infinitely grateful to everyone who visited our tent. Your support is invaluable to us. We had many heartfelt conversations with people who shared words of support, stories, and solidarity,” the Wisconsin Ukrainians said.
The festival was organized by the ECDC Multicultural Community Center, the Mosaic of North Central Wisconsin, the Hmong Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce, Visit Wausau, and other partners.
In addition to Ukrainians, immigrants from Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe presented their traditions through art, dance, music, food, and crafts.
