A landmark event took place in New York as the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA) presented a historical book marking the organization’s 100th anniversary. The presentation was held at the Ukrainian Museum and gathered UNWLA members, community leaders, and representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora. The publication, titled “1925–2025: A Century of Commitment – The History of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America”, is the result of many years of work by Dr. Marta Kichorowska-Kebalo, who collected and systematized materials on the activities of the largest and oldest Ukrainian women’s organization in North America.

The book recreates the 100-year history of the League, closely connected with waves of emigration, the development of women’s leadership, and the struggle to preserve Ukrainian identity in the U.S. and worldwide.
“Born from the ashes of what seemed like a lost statehood, the unity of women that emerged a century ago has transformed into a powerful and influential community — driven by unwavering dedication to supporting the Ukrainian people,” the UNWLA stated.
The author emphasized that the organization has been and remains a symbol of solidarity among Ukrainian women, who have made a significant contribution to building civil society and supporting Ukraine during the most difficult historical periods. A unique feature of the publication is that it is published in English to make it accessible to a wider audience — future generations of the Ukrainian diaspora, researchers, historians, and anyone interested in the contribution of Ukrainian women to preserving cultural heritage and supporting Ukraine.
The book includes materials about the key figures of the organization, including Nataliia Pavlenko, Marta Kichorowska-Kebalo, Marianna Zaiats, Iryna Kurovytsia, Nadiia Nynka, and Maria Kvit-Flynn, who at different times led the UNWLA to new achievements.
The presentation of the book was not only a commemoration but also an important moment for strengthening the women’s movement in the U.S. Participants of the event noted that the book is not just the history of one organization but a testament to the role of Ukrainian women in preserving national identity and contributing to the development of the diaspora. The publication serves as a source of inspiration for new generations of Ukrainian women who continue the League’s mission worldwide — to unite, support, and defend Ukrainian interests.
