This winter in Ukraine, increased enemy shelling, power outages, and extensive infrastructure damage are all leading to bitter cold and darkness that threaten to slow progress and strain morale. However, even in these conditions, students at Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU), located in Lviv, Ukraine, continue to learn in person while being kept safe and warm. The university has taken all necessary measures to ensure its students continue progressing toward a brighter future.
A University Committed to Ukraine’s Future
UCU is one of Ukraine’s premier institutions of higher learning. As the war continues, UCU has redoubled its commitment to providing a top-tier education, empowering students to remain in Ukraine to study and work. It is also launching bold initiatives that educate future leaders, heal the wounds of war, and strengthen Ukraine’s place in the world.
Setting a New Standard in Legal Education
In 2024, Forbes Ukraine named UCU Law School the top law school in the country. Its success comes from a values-based approach that prepares future lawyers to rebuild a just and ethical judicial system.
To meet the growing demand, UCU opened a dedicated law faculty in the 2025–2026 academic year, training a new generation of principled legal professionals and setting a new benchmark for European- and U.S.-style legal education in Ukraine.
Robotics for Recovery and Renewal
UCU has introduced a bachelor’s degree program in robotics, combining robotics, computer science, and artificial intelligence. Graduates use their knowledge and skills learned to help restore damaged infrastructure, operate in hazardous environments, and advance medical technologies such as bionic prosthetics.
The program directly supports Ukraine’s recovery while preparing students for the global tech economy, in collaboration with leading Ukrainian and international engineering partners.
Healing in Body, Mind, and Spirit
The UCU Medical Clinic serves as both a center of care and a training ground for physical and occupational therapists. Serving civilians, veterans, and families, the clinic blends compassionate healthcare with hands-on education and welcomes volunteer medical professionals from around the world.
Through its growing Office for Affairs of Veterans and Their Families, UCU recognizes that veterans’ leadership, skills, and lived experience are essential to a strong postwar Ukraine. The university offers practical, rehabilitative support through its Medical Clinic, and its Legal Clinic delivers free legal aid to service members, injured veterans, and their families. It also offers robust educational opportunities, including scholarships, tuition discounts, leadership programs, and business training. Just as importantly, UCU fosters a strong community of peer support to help veterans successfully reintegrate into academic, professional, and civic life.
Upcoming Events to Support UCU
UCU is the only nonprofit university in Ukraine, sustained by supporters worldwide who cherish their Ukrainian heritage and those committed to seeing Ukraine flourish as a free, just, and democratic nation. In the United States, the Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, supports UCU’s mission and operations.
This winter, the Foundation will host several events to unite its community and reach out to new people. They warmly invite all to attend one of their online webinar events or their soirees in Chicago or Naples, FL.
