The new $200 million security assistance package includes air defense systems, HIMARS artillery ammunition, mortar rounds and Javelin anti-tank missiles. This package of military assistance was provided under the President's arms reduction authority - the weapons will come directly from the US Army.
In addition, the Pentagon announced a $1.5 billion package under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) that includes:
- Ammunition for HIMARS;
- 155 mm and 105 mm caliber artillery rounds;
- NASAMS anti-aircraft rocket system ammunition;
- Short and medium-range air defense ammunition;
- RIM-7 air defense missiles;
- high-precision aerial munitions;
- 120 mm caliber mortar rounds;
- TOW anti-tank guided missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;
- Electronic warfare equipment;
- commercial satellite imagery services.
"This is the twentieth USAI package from the Biden administration and the sixty-second tranche of equipment to be provided to Ukraine from the U.S. Department of Defense stockpile beginning in August 2021", the Pentagon said.
