Carnegie Hall in New York City hosted a benefit concert for Ukrainian children and youth. The evening brought together prominent musicians and representatives of more than a dozen countries to support Ukrainian children affected by the war.
This was reported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The main performance of the program was Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with "Ode to Joy" performed by the Orchestra of Ukraine under the direction of German conductor Christoph Eschenbach. The concert also featured performances by violinist Anna-Sophie Mutter, Valentyna Silvestrova, who sang Prayers for Ukraine, and the Ukrainian choir Dumka, which sang the Ukrainian national anthem.
All proceeds were donated to Direct Relief to provide medicine for Ukrainian children and families. The event was marked by speeches emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukraine and condemning Russia's war crimes.
Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN Sergiy Kyslytsya said the concert, which brought together musicians from more than a dozen countries, had become a symbol of global solidarity in the struggle for peace. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield also reaffirmed that the United States has stood by Ukraine since the first day of the war, supporting it in its defense of culture, democracy and freedom.
The event also included a presentation of traditional Ukrainian dishes from Bakhmut.
