Biden: Ukraine will win if the West stays united

U.S. President Joe Biden expressed confidence that Ukraine has a chance to win the war against Russia, provided that the U.S. continues to support it and that Western allies remain united.

He said this during a press conference at the White House after a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“I had a long conversation with Zelensky today, and I think as long as we continue to maintain unity in Western Europe when it comes to Ukraine, there's a real chance that Ukrainians will win because the price for Russia is incredibly high,” Biden said.

Президент зазначив, що втрати рф під час широкомасштабного вторгнення перевищили «понад 600 тисяч загиблих або поранених». Він також звернув увагу на важкі втрати серед північнокорейських військових, яких кремль залучив до війни проти України.

Biden emphasized the importance of increasing economic pressure on Russia. According to him, the sanctions against Russian oil imposed on Friday will make it even more difficult for Moscow to wage war.

“The sanctions have been imposed today because they will have a strong impact on the Russian economy and make it more difficult for Putin to conduct his wars,” he emphasized.

Commenting on the possible impact of the restrictions on the US market, Biden said that gasoline prices could increase by three to four cents per gallon, but noted that this “will have a deeper impact on Russia's ability to continue to operate as it does in a war.”

The US President also emphasized that he had used all his powers to support an independent Ukraine.

“I have decided to do everything in my power and authority to give Ukraine all the advantages it can have to support an independent Ukraine,” he said.

In addition, Biden assured that bipartisan support for Ukraine in Congress would continue.

“I know there are a significant number of Democrats and Republicans on the Hill who believe we should continue to support Ukraine,” he said.

At the same time, the president expressed hope that congressmen would be ready to resist possible attempts by President-elect Donald Trump to reduce support for Ukraine.
