The United States has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians (TPS program)

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the extension of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program for Ukrainian citizens for another 18 months. The new TPS extension will allow Ukrainians to remain in the United States until October 19, 2026. The decision was made due to the ongoing war and the extraordinary humanitarian situation in Ukraine, which makes it impossible for them to return home safely.

This was reported by U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The extension applies to Ukrainian citizens who were in the United States as of August 16, 2023, regardless of their immigration status.

In total, this will allow about 103 thousand Ukrainians who already have TPS or meet the requirements to maintain their status and extend their work permits.

For those who have previously received an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) under TPS, an automatic extension of the permit for 12 months is provided.

It is noted that applicants with submitted Forms I-821 (TPS) and I-765 (work permit) do not have to re-submit them. If approved, their documents will be valid until October 2026.

An official notice in the Federal Register will soon explain the procedure for re-registering for TPS and extending EAD.
