The Embassy of Ukraine in the United States has officially denied false information actively circulating on social media. A Russian propaganda machine is attempting to mislead Ukrainians and the international community by falsely claiming that the administration of Donald Trump is allegedly shutting down Ukrainian consulates. Ukrainian diplomats emphasized that all of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions in the U.S. continue to operate as usual.
This was reported by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the U.S. urged people not to fall for Russian disinformation attacks, which have intensified recently in an attempt to undermine trust in Ukrainian diplomatic institutions.
One of the latest false claims, which has been widely spread on TikTok, particularly targeting young and less-informed users, asserts that President Donald Trump’s administration has allegedly initiated the process of closing Ukrainian consulates in the U.S. Moreover, Russian propaganda is pushing narratives of so-called "betrayal" and "reduced U.S. support"—falsely claiming that the United States is planning to "minimize aid to Ukraine" while instead focusing on "establishing peace with Russia."
"Friends, we have recently witnessed an intensification of the Russian fake news factory and disinformation attacks on Ukraine in general, and on Ukrainian diplomacy in particular. We thank all media outlets and fact-checkers who verify information and prevent the spread of these falsehoods," stated the official Embassy of Ukraine announcement.
According to Ambassador Markarova, there is no reason for concern, as the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington, D.C., as well as consulates in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Houston, continue to operate normally. Additionally, ten honorary consuls of Ukraine remain active in various U.S. cities.
On the contrary, Ukrainian diplomats are currently negotiating with the U.S. State Department to expand Ukraine’s diplomatic presence in America, as the United States remains Ukraine’s strategic partner.
"No matter how Russia attacks us—with missiles at home or with fakes abroad—it will not succeed!" emphasized the Ambassador.
