Picnic in support of Ukraine in Cupertino: traditions, inspiration, and charity under the California sun

Branch 107 of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America organized the annual Ukrainian summer charity picnic in Cupertino, California. Guests enjoyed Ukrainian cuisine, cultural workshops, theatrical performances, and live music. Proceeds from the event will benefit women and children in Ukraine.

This was reported by UNWLA Branch 107.

The picnic brought together hundreds of guests for a day of Ukrainian culture and family fun. Throughout the day, guests could participate in themed workshops and children's activities, learn about Ukrainian crafts, and enjoy live music.

A Ukrainian lunch menu was offered to visitors and included varenyky, sausage, borscht, salads, and other traditional dishes. There was also a market with products made by Ukrainian artisans where visitors could purchase souvenirs and participate in cultural activities.

Children enjoyed a play area with theatrical performances and handicraft classes, and they played with bubbles and had fun at the playgrounds. The exhibition of Ukrainian national costumes was also popular, allowing guests to see the richness of traditional clothing up close.

Creative master classes occupied a special place in the program. One of these was Petrykivka painting, led by artist Sofia Ogorodnik. Visitors had the opportunity to try their hand at this traditional Ukrainian art form and create their own colorful compositions. Nearby, artist Olena Babych led a workshop on fabric printing. Participants decorated napkins and bags with traditional ornaments using an ancient pattern-application technique.

Another highlight was the master class on making motanka dolls, which are traditional Ukrainian talismans. With the guidance of an experienced instructor, participants created two types of dolls: a traditional motanka with an apron and a simpler angel-shaped version, which was particularly popular with children.

For those who wanted to preserve the memory of this day, a photo zone decorated in the style of Ukrainian embroidery was set up. There, professional photographer Iryna Novosyolova took pictures free of charge.

"The picnic is over, but the memories will stay with us until next year. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who came and supported our humanitarian programs," said the UNWLA representatives.

All funds raised at the event will go to UNWLA's humanitarian programs: "Healing Children's Burns" and "Medical Aid During the War in Ukraine."
