The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMA) in Chicago has opened a new exhibition titled “Entangled Expressions: Exploring the Labyrinth of Linearity,” which will run through September 14. The exhibition features works by three artists—Victoria Fuller, Spencer Gale, and Deborah Newmark—who explore themes of linearity, entanglement, and organic chaos through their unique artistic languages.

“Entangled Expressions” is an immersive journey into the labyrinth of line, where art converges with the intricate patterns of nature, mathematics, and human expression. The exhibition presents the captivating work of three visionary artists who skillfully investigate the complexity of lines, knots, and interwoven structures, each using their own medium. Within this curated space, viewers encounter a rich interplay of forms and textures, all united by a common theme—meandering lines,” the organizers explained.
Victoria Fuller’s works feature ordinary garden hoses, transformed into visually striking sculptures that mimic molecules, DNA knots, and mathematical forms. Her pieces evoke a sense of invisible forces and connections that shape reality.

Spencer Gale, in turn, creates mesmerizing compositions using glass and neon. His luminous works literally shed light on the complexities of psychological states and nuances of the human experience, turning the physical space into one of meditation and reflection.
Deborah Newmark works in drawing and mixed media. Her pieces showcase abstract organic forms that appear to grow from nature itself, transforming into metaphors for emotion, randomness, and the interconnectedness of all living things.
The exhibition is curated to allow each artwork to complement the others, creating a contemplative environment. Visitors are invited into a dialogue between light and shadow, lines and surfaces, drawing them into a meditative atmosphere.
In addition to the July 12 opening, another key event is scheduled: an artist talk and Q&A on August 16, where attendees will have the chance to meet the artists, ask questions, and learn more about their creative processes.
