On August 15, Trump is scheduled to meet with Putin in Alaska. In this regard, the Ukrainian-American organization Razom for Ukraine issued a public appeal, urging Trump not to allow Putin to use dialogue as a cover for new aggression.
"Over the past three years, brave Ukrainian women and men have done the impossible. They have brought one of the world's largest armies to a virtual standstill," said Razom Advocacy Director Mykola Mursky. "President Trump forced Putin to the negotiating table by demonstrating true American strength."
However, Razom warns that Putin's willingness to negotiate is not a step toward peace but rather a "sign of strategic desperation." The organization urges Trump not to succumb to illusions.
"For Putin, this is not about territory or geopolitical goals, but a deep desire to destroy the Ukrainian nation. Ukrainians share President Trump's desire for peace, but history shows that Putin will use any opportunity to rearm, regroup, and prepare for a new offensive,” said Mursky.
Razom calls on the U.S. president to reject the Kremlin's proposals, which have nothing to do with real peace.
"For Putin, this is not about territory or geopolitical goals, but about a deep desire to destroy the Ukrainian nation. History shows that he will use any pause to rearm, regroup, and launch a new offensive. Exchanging territories simply cannot bring the peace that Ukrainians and President Trump desire," Mursky emphasized.
The organization stresses that achieving peace requires confronting evil, not making concessions. This means completely ending Russian aggression, returning more than 19,500 abducted Ukrainian children, and withdrawing troops from all occupied Ukrainian territories.
According to Razom, Trump has an opportunity to reaffirm U.S. leadership by taking concrete action:
- imposing new, expanded sanctions and tariffs on Russia
- continuing to supply Ukraine with weapons
- and calling on European allies to strengthen support for collective security
According to an Echelon Insights poll (July 2025), 65% of Trump voters support providing additional military aid to Ukraine, with only 22% opposed.
