Russia Strikes American Flex Factory in Mukachevo

Russia launched another combined missile-and-drone attack on Ukraine, targeting several regions including Lviv, Zakarpattia, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, Volyn, Cherkasy, and Zaporizhzhia. Notably, two cruise missiles struck the modern and high-tech U.S.-owned Flex plant in Mukachevo, injuring 15 people. Until now, this region had been considered relatively safe, with almost no previous attacks since the start of the full-scale war.

The Flex press office confirmed the strike on their Mukachevo facility. The company, one of the largest employers and taxpayers in Zakarpattia — with nearly 3,000 employees — is currently assessing the damage. Flex emphasized that the factory produced only civilian goods.

“Several employees and contractors were injured during the strike and remain hospitalized. Flex is providing full support to them and their families and is engaging with the appropriate U.S. government agencies. We have activated our Business Continuity Plan to ensure ongoing operations and are currently assessing the extent of the damage. Our Mukachevo facility specializes in consumer and lifestyle products and has never been involved in military or defense manufacturing,” the company said.

Until now, Mukachevo had not been directly targeted during the war, and strikes in Zakarpattia have been rare.

“One of the missiles struck a major American electronics manufacturer in our westernmost region, causing serious damage and casualties. This is not the first Russian attack on U.S. business in Ukraine, following strikes on Boeing offices in Kyiv earlier this year and other incidents. There is no military logic or necessity—only terror against people, business, and normal life in our country,” commented Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

This region is also home to a large Hungarian community, and some experts previously suggested the absence of strikes in the area could be due to undisclosed arrangements between the Hungarian and Russian governments. However, even after the attack on Mukachevo, official Budapest did not condemn Russia’s actions.

“This morning’s news from Ukraine once again proves that peace is needed as soon as possible! Only then can we prevent further destruction and casualties,” Zelensky said Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, without mentioning the attack on a city with a sizable Hungarian population.
