The second “Heroes of Ukraine Cup” charity football tournament, organized by the parish of Our Lady of Zarvanycia Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, was held in Seattle, Washington, for the second time. The purpose of the event is to raise funds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by Our Lady of Zarvanycia Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
The competition began with a prayer and blessing from Father Andriy. “The Church participates in various spheres of life, including sports. The purpose of the tournament is to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and spend time with benefit,” he emphasized.
After that, the anthems of Ukraine and the United States were played, and the first matches started.
Six teams took part in the tournament, with a total of 65 players. Dozens of spectators came to the Arena Sports Magnuson, which provided the venue free of charge, including parishioners, families, and friends of the participants. The atmosphere on the field was tense but friendly, and each goal was another step towards helping the Ukrainian soldiers.
According to the results of the competition, the first place was won by the Brick by brick team, the second – Freedoms fighters, the third – Glory to Ukraine FC. The following positions were taken by Kraken, Trident FC and Last legends.
All teams received medals, and the winners – the main trophy of the tournament, the Cup of Heroes of Ukraine.
The event united parishioners, the Ukrainian community and friends of Ukraine around a common cause – helping the Ukrainian defenders. In particular, all funds collected during the event will be donated to support the 117th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade, which is currently fighting near Kupyansk.
The event ended with a joint prayer for peace, thanks to the participants, partners and everyone who joined the good cause.
The tournament partners were Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, Arena Sports Magnuson and European Foods. The organizers expressed special gratitude to the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, which has supported the Ukrainian community in the United States since 1953 and actively finances cultural, educational, and humanitarian initiatives.
As the organizers concluded, the Heroes of Ukraine Cup tournament became not only a sporting event, but also a sign of unity among Ukrainians in the diaspora, who continue to support the defenders of the Motherland through sports.
