Фестиваль “Black Square Fete” започаткував нову мистецьку традицію в Українському музеї

The Ukrainian National Museum in New York hosted the inaugural “Black Square Fete” festival, an avant-garde event that launched a new artistic tradition by bringing together friends of the museum, collectors, patrons, and the creative community around the visionary legacy of Kazimir Malevich. The celebration combined interactive art, live performances, and unique culinary elements, emphasizing the museum’s mission to preserve and develop Ukrainian culture in a global context.

This was reported by the Ukrainian National Museum.

“What a night! It was truly special – thanks to all of you!” The first Black Square Fete at the Ukrainian Museum began a new tradition — a tradition that celebrates art, heritage, and unity,” the organizers noted.

It was also noted that the Black Square Fete festival will become an annual artistic gathering that will unite the community around the ideas of creativity, freedom, and cultural continuity.

Guests of the evening could experience the museum in a new format — through avant-garde decor, interactive art zones, and food art from a chef who studied at Le Cordon Bleu.

“One night, one painting, one community, united by a common passion for artistic expression and freedom,” the post says.

According to the organizers, the special guest of the festival was R.K. Baker, who in his speech told the guests the story of the Black Square and Malevich’s influence on the global art scene.

"I am thrilled to see the Ukrainian Museum entering a new era of development, opening up new and exciting opportunities for the younger generation of supporters to become part of its institutional legacy. I want to express my gratitude to the key individuals who helped to make this event possible Peter Doroshenko, Elena Siyanko, Liudmyla Rabij, Kateryna Gudziak, and Polina Ivko. A big thank you to the artists who donated their works for the auction", said Organizing Committee Member Anastasia Gudko.

The evening culminated in an auction of exclusive artworks and art experiences created specifically for the event. Among the artists featured were Peter Halley, Maya Hayuk, Misha Tyutyunik and Synchrodogs, whose works interpreted a dialogue with Malevich’s iconic work.

All proceeds will go towards supporting the museum’s historic building (which has been its home since 2005), as well as developing its key programs – KOLO and SHKOLA, which nurture a new generation of artists and cultural thinkers.
