UCCA Calls on US to Strengthen Support for Ukraine

The Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America has called for increased military assistance, sanctions pressure, and holding the aggressor state accountable for war crimes. The UCCA issued the statement on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

This was reported Ukrainian Congress Committee of America.

The document notes that four years ago, Russia launched a full-scale, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, which escalated the war that began in 2014 with the illegal occupation of Crimea and parts of Eastern Ukraine.

The statement notes that during this time, Ukrainians have been subjected to missile and drone attacks, the destruction of critical civilian infrastructure, the abduction of children, mass atrocities, and the systematic destruction of culture, language, and identity.

“This is not a ‘conflict in Ukraine’. This is a war of aggression and genocide by Russia against Ukraine – a war aimed at destroying a sovereign state and depriving its people of the right to exist,” the statement says.

The document also emphasizes:

“If Russia stops its invasion, the war will end. If Ukraine stops defending itself, it will cease to exist.”

The Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America, which has represented over two million Americans of Ukrainian descent since 1940, honored the memory of the fallen military and civilian victims of the war and expressed solidarity with their families.

The statement also noted the resilience of Ukrainian society – its courage, unity and commitment to democratic values. It is emphasized that the defense of Ukraine is not only a struggle for its own sovereignty, but also the protection of international law, human rights, human dignity and the post-war security order formed after World War II.

The UCCA warns the international community against the policy of appeasement:

“The price of appeasement is measured in human lives. The price of delay is in destroyed cities and abducted children. The world must be decisive: peace cannot be achieved by rewarding the aggressor or forcing the victim to surrender,” the UCCA stressed.

In this regard, the organization called on the Government of the United States of America and the international community to:

  • continue and increase military assistance to Ukraine;
    • hold Russia accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity;
    • ensure the return of forcibly abducted Ukrainian children;
    • introduce and strictly enforce tough sanctions against the aggressor state;
    • clearly confirm that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine are not subject to any compromise.

The statement concludes by emphasizing that after four years of full-scale war and over a decade of Russian aggression, Ukraine remains unyielding, and the Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America will continue to support Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved.

“Glory to Ukraine!” – the statement concludes.
