Hamilton hosts largest exhibition of Ukrainian war posters

The Clifford Gallery at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, is hosting the largest-ever exhibition of Ukrainian graphic posters in the United States, Ukrainian Wartime Posters: 2022-2025. The Way of Resistance, dedicated to the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

This was reported by the event organizers.

“The Clifford Gallery at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, presents 309 graphic works by 42 contemporary artists from Ukraine, Poland, and France who have been creating war posters in support of Ukraine for the past four years,” said Olena Speranska, one of the project’s curators.

The exhibition is part of the international art project “Wartime Posters”, launched in 2022 by the BIRUCHIY Contemporary Art Project in collaboration with the Zaporizhia City Council in Ukraine, the NGO “Union of Contemporary Art Researchers” and the American organization “Platform for Contemporary Ukrainian Art”.

In addition, the project contains video documentation of 37 “Wartime Posters” exhibitions that took place in public spaces of the frontline city of Zaporizhia in Ukraine during the full-scale war.

“Wartime Posters” is a long-term open-air art initiative founded in 2022 by curators Olena Speranska and Gennady Kozub in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Zaporizhia City Council. The posters presented reflect and document the events of the ongoing war, show the courage and resilience of Ukrainians, expose Russian propaganda and record evidence of war crimes,” the organizers noted.

The opening was attended by human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviychuk, who in a video address emphasized the importance of art in combating propaganda and fixing the truth about the war.

“For decades, Russian propaganda has denied the existence of the Ukrainian nation and culture, while art and visual communication have become a tool for fixing the truth and international solidarity,” she noted.

The exhibition has not only artistic but also educational significance. Lectures and discussions were held during the opening dedicated to the role of visual culture in documenting war, trauma, and shaping civic discourse.

Overall, this is the largest international review of Ukrainian wartime poster art, demonstrating how creativity can become a form of resistance and cultural diplomacy.

In particular, here you can see the works of such artists as Nikita Titov, Oleg Buganov, Dmytro Dzyuba, Marta Leshak, Katya Lisova, Anton Logov, Dariya Lutsishyna, Maksym Malovichko, Nato Mikeladze, Vladislav Mykhailiv, Marcel Onisco, Maksym Palenko and others.

“Meanwhile, in the United States of America, a grandiose event is resounding with its own artistic “Lion’s Roar” – the poster exhibition “Ukrainian Wartime Posters/ Плакаты войного часо 2022-2025”. The exposition here works like heavy artillery, which hits accurately, because it tells the truth about this cruel war. This is poster ballistics, where the works of artists explode with the language of truth, color and form”, – said Vladislav Mykhailiv, whose works are also exhibited at the exhibition.

The exhibition will last until May 1, 2026, admission for visitors is free.
