The Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS), the Washington Public Affairs Bureau of the Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America (UCCA), has urged the public to appeal to the White House to increase military assistance to Ukraine ahead of the NATO summit. The organization stressed that the massive Russian missile and drone strike on Ukraine on July 6 was not only another attack on civilians, but also an attempt to intimidate Ukraine’s allies and test the unity of the North Atlantic Alliance.
This was reported by the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS).
The statement noted that the timing of the attack was not accidental. According to UNIS, the Kremlin sought to demonstrate its readiness for further escalation just before the NATO leaders’ meeting, trying to influence the allies’ political decisions and weaken support for Ukraine.
The organization recalled that in recent months, European states have already taken additional security measures in response to Russian aggression. In particular, Poland has repeatedly raised F-16 fighters and put air defense forces on high alert due to massive Russian attacks near its border.
UNIS also drew attention to international media reports about warnings by American and Polish officials about possible Russian provocations against Poland in order to test NATO's readiness to fulfill its obligations under Article 5 of the Washington Treaty.
According to the organization, strikes on Kyiv and potential threats to the Alliance's eastern flank are parts of a single security problem that requires a joint response from allies.
The appeal emphasizes that Ukraine has sufficient determination to defend its state, but needs additional means of defense. Among the priority needs are Patriot air defense systems, interceptor missiles, modern fighter jets, means of combating drones and further security support.
Separately, UNIS called on allies to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, in particular, to block the possibilities for the operation of the so-called "shadow fleet", which ensures the flow of funds to the Russian budget.
The organization also emphasized the need to maintain diplomatic pressure on Moscow, emphasizing that Ukraine has repeatedly declared its readiness for negotiations, while Russia continues to respond to such signals with new attacks.
The Ukrainian National Information Service called on American citizens and the Ukrainian community in the United States to appeal to the White House to continue and strengthen support for Ukraine in the field of air defense and security, noting that it is such decisions that can help save the lives of civilians and strengthen the security of the Euro-Atlantic space.
