Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. She is the only Ukrainian tennis player to do so in the singles.
Playing against a backdrop of terrorist attacks in Ukraine, the athlete wore a black ribbon and could not hold back tears in her post-match commentary.
"No doubt it was a good match. But it was a difficult day for the Ukrainians. So yes, it was not easy to concentrate on the game. It was very difficult to read the news in the morning, it was very difficult to go out on the court. So I'm glad I played and won", Svitolina said.
Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchikh set a world record in the women's high jump.
The Ukrainian jumped 2.10 metres at the Diamond League meeting in Paris, breaking the previous record of 2.09 metres, which had stood for 37 years. It had been set by a Bulgarian athlete.
