Ukraine House in Washington, DC hosted an event in support of the Ukrainian military entitled "Reintegration and Support of Ukrainian Veterans", organized by the Stalevy Charitable Foundation. The purpose of the event was to draw attention to the importance of supporting veterans and ensuring their reintegration into civilian life.
Among the guests was Serhiy Volynskyi, known by his nickname Volyna, who heroically defended Mariupol and spent 124 days in Russian captivity. After being exchanged on September 21, 2022 and interned in Turkey, he returned to Ukraine to support his fellow marines and their families. Sergiy's main goal is to create an atmosphere of care and support for every Marine so they feel at home.
Volynskyi shared his experiences of joining the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the 86-day defense of Mariupol, Russian war crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war, and the need to support veterans in their transition to civilian life.
Serhiy Volynsky was joined by Halyna Fedyshyn, a combat medic who continued to speak Ukrainian while in Russian captivity, and Heorhiy Roshko, a marine who lost his arm during the defense of Mariupol.
