The annual Disney Legends Award ceremony took place in California. Ukrainian-born animator Steve Ditko was among the list of fourteen Disney legends. The animator of the famous Spider-Man and Dr. Strange comics received the award in the Publishing category posthumously. This award is given to legendary figures who have gone down forever in the history of Disney.

Steve Ditko grew up in a family of Ukrainian immigrants in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and became interested in comics at a young age. After serving in the U.S. Army, where he drew comics for the Army newsletter, one of his idols, Batman artist Jerry Robinson, became his teacher. In the early 1950s, Steve's work began to appear in print, and he was soon hired by Atlas Comics, the forerunner of Marvel Comics.
In 1962, one of the most popular comic book characters of all time, Spider-Man, was born. The appearance of this superhero in Amazing Fantasy #15 was one of the milestones in both Steve's career and the history of Marvel. And later - the hero, the master of mystical arts "Doctor Strange". He reimagined many of Marvel's iconic characters in the form we know today.
He later left Marvel Comics and moved to DC Comics, where he created the DC Universe characters Creeper, Speedball and Squirrel Girl.
Disney called Ditko one of the world's most brilliant comic book artists, "whose imagination and creative vision changed the superhero comic book industry forever.
The artist died in New York in 2018 at the age of 90.
