This weekend, the Taras Shevchenko School of Ukrainian Studies in Bethesda, Maryland, celebrated its first bell. In the new school year, 235 students will join this unique center of the Ukrainian community and deepen their knowledge of Ukraine.
This was reported by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova.
"Our Washington School of Ukrainian Studies is something special. It is not just a Saturday school where children learn about Ukraine. Our school is a big family of several generations of Ukrainians, active and patriotic representatives of our community", Markarova said.
According to her, this year 235 students will attend the Saturday school, where they will learn more about Ukraine each week.
"This is extremely important both for our active community and for Ukraine, which is fighting for freedom and independence and defending itself against insidious Russian invaders... Thank you to the students and their parents for making Ukrainian language, culture and history a priority no matter how long they live in the United States", the Ambassador added.
The Taras Shevchenko School of Ukrainian Studies in Washington, DC and the surrounding area is a Saturday school founded in 1963 that educates conscious and spiritually rich young people of Ukrainian descent to become full-fledged, worthy and proud members of the global Ukrainian community.
The school serves children ages 3 to 16, grades 1 to 10, who understand and speak Ukrainian and wish to expand their knowledge of Ukrainian language, culture, history, and other subjects. Classes are held in Ukrainian every Saturday from September to May.
