Lithuanian-born 93-year-old U.S. Army veteran and American Vytautas Pachkauskas has been supporting Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war and has held more than 130 pro-Ukrainian rallies in the United States. Together with their daughter in Michigan, they regularly organize events in support of Ukraine.
This was reported in a Voice of America story.
"What do I want to see? Free Ukrainians. That is my goal! And I believe that they will be free no matter what. And especially if the appropriate laws are passed to continue to support them", says Vytautas Pachkauskas, a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Vytautas Pachkauskas was born in Lithuania. But he was forced to leave his home at the age of 9 because of the Soviet occupation, so when the full-scale invasion began, he could not stay away. He supported the Ukrainians as much as he could.
In the first days of the invasion, the Vytautas family talked about supporting Ukraine everywhere: they visited universities, American veterans' associations, and talked to Americans. They also began organizing pro-Ukraine events in their hometown in Michigan.
Since then, he has held more than 130 marches in support of our country and participated in more than 500 events. He also helped found Yoopers for Ukraine and met with several American politicians, urging them to continue supporting Ukrainians.
On his 93rd birthday, he received an autographed flag from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which he now brings to every event.
