The Harvard Innovation Lab (Harvard I-Lab) hosted the annual meeting of Ukraine Global Scholars (UGS, Boston), which was attended by more than 120 participants, including students, mentors, partners, and honored guests. The meeting became a platform for discussing student initiatives in support of Ukraine and plans for the development of the program.
This was report by the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA.
Katia Smagliy, Counselor at the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States, presented the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies initiative and shared tools that students can use to support Ukraine on their campuses.
Joining the discussion were UGS President Yulia Lemesh, American Coalition for Ukraine (ACU) Board Chair Marianna Tretiak, who told UGS students how they can represent Ukraine at the Ukraine Action Summit in Washington, D.C., and Dr. Richard Weisburd, Senior Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, who gave students tips on how to maximize their time at their universities.
"In 2024, we have a room full of incredible, patriotic, and intelligent leaders from Ukraine studying at the world's leading educational institutions thanks to scholarships, UGS support, mentors, advisors, host families, and leaders in the Boston community. I am grateful to have been a part of this 9-year journey. In 2024, we were hosted by the Harvard Innovation Lab (Harvard I-Lab), as we received a grant from the Harvard Social Impact Fellowship Fund in 2023. The event was a great success, with more than 120 students and guests attending. A note to ourselves: next time we should order more Ukrainian food, it was a real hit," UGS President Yulia Lemesh shared her impressions of the event.
In conclusion, the organizers announced a new ambitious goal - the creation of a repatriation program to support UGS graduates in employment and research in Ukraine.
The event also featured a Ukrainian Art Corner with works by contemporary Ukrainian artists, organized by the Ukrainian Cultural Initiative.
