Michael Volz, whom Donald Trump plans to appoint as National Security Advisor, expressed the newly elected US president's position on the war in Ukraine. He stressed that Trump is extremely concerned about the bloodshed caused by Russian aggression.
This was reported by Fox News.
"President Trump has been clear about the need to end this conflict," Volz said, stressing that Trump is committed to restoring deterrence, stopping escalation and finding a peaceful solution.
Volz outlined several examples of the escalation of the conflict, including:
- North Korean military involvement on the side of Russia;
- Ukraine's attacks on targets in Russia with the support of the United States;
- Russia's use of experimental weapons, including the Dnipro attack.
"We need to restore deterrence, restore peace, and get ahead of this escalation, not react to it," Volz added.
He also said that the future Trump administration is ready to negotiate, identify participants in the peace process and the framework of an agreement that will ensure a lasting peace.
Commenting on the Biden administration's recent decision to provide Ukraine with "smart" anti-personnel mines, Volz called it a step that will help protect Ukraine's lines of defense and emphasized the need to stop Russia's territorial gains.
Volz warned potential enemies of the United States that it would be a mistake to think they could "play one administration against another" and that the change of power in America is "a time of opportunity.
After meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Volz said European allies "will play a key role" in the peace process as well as in resolving energy issues.
