Blinken: Ukraine is fighting for the whole Western world, support should be unchanged

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has called for continued international support for Ukraine, stressing that its struggle is not only a defense of its own security, but also of the principles that underlie the stability of the entire world. He said this during a press conference following the G7 ministerial meeting in Italy.

This was reported by Sky News.

"The reality is that Ukraine is fighting for us. It is not just fighting for its security, it is fighting for us," Blinken stressed.

According to the Secretary of State, the countries of Europe and the world should continue to support Ukraine, as Russia's aggression threatens not only the Ukrainian people, but also the world order.

"In my 32 years in office, the United States has made significant investments in support of Ukraine, about $100 billion in the last two and a half years, but our partners and allies around the world have done more, about $150 billion," he said, adding that these efforts are an example of global solidarity and shared responsibility.

Blinken stressed that Russia's war against Ukraine is a challenge to the entire democratic world.

Blinken said that Russia's attack "is not only an aggression against Ukraine and its people, but also against the very principles at the heart of the international system that are necessary to maintain peace and stability," he said, expressing confidence in the continued support of the United States and its allies.

The G7 meeting in Italy focused on global challenges, including military support for Ukraine, energy security and dealing with the economic fallout from the war.
