President-elect Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, returning to the White House after a four-year hiatus. Trump is the first president since the 1890s to win a second consecutive term. The inauguration took place at the Capitol in Washington on January 20, with J.D. Vance, the new U.S. vice president, taking the oath of office before him. In his first speech as President of the United States, Trump said that America's "golden age" was beginning and that the administration would put America first throughout its term.
This was reported as part of the live broadcast of the ceremony.
Trump used the Abraham Lincoln Bible to take the oath. This is the same Bible that Lincoln used during his 1861 swearing-in ceremony.
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States," he said in his oath.
In his first speech, Trump emphasized the unification of the nation, noting that America's "golden age" was beginning.
"From this day forward, we will prosper and other countries will envy us. Throughout my administration, I will put America first," he said.
According to Trump, his priority is a "proud, prosperous nation" and a "strong America," so he is returning to the White House "confident and optimistic."
"As of this moment, America's decline is over. Our freedoms and the fate of our country will no longer hang in the balance. We will restore good government," Trump said, adding that "his life was saved to make America great again."
In his speech, Trump also declared a state of emergency on the southern border of the United States. According to him, all illegal migrants will be detained and the process of returning them to their home countries will begin. He also announced the recognition of cartels as international terrorist organizations and declared an energy emergency, from now on the United States will use its largest oil and gas deposits, replenish strategic reserves and export energy resources around the world.
Trump added that he would continue to reform the trade system. The United States will create a Committee on Foreign Taxation, which will tax foreign goods.
"With my actions today, we will end the New Green Deal and repeal the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and fulfilling my sacred promise to my great American auto workers. In other words, you will be able to buy the car of your choice. We are going to start making cars in America again at a pace that no one could have dreamed of just a few years ago," Trump said.
In addition, he announced tariffs on other countries, the restoration of fair justice, and emphasized that he would implement a policy of having only two genders - male and female. Trump added that he would ban all censorship and bring freedom of speech back to America. Трамп додав, що заборонить будь-яку цензуру і поверне свободу слова в Америку.
During his speech, Trump did not mention Ukraine, but only promised to end all wars on Earth. He also instructed his staff to arrange a phone call with Putin in the near future.
"My legacy will be the reputation of a man who achieves peace talks and ends wars," he said, recalling the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The ceremony will be followed by a presidential luncheon in Congress, a review of the troops and the traditional parade at Capital One Arena. In the evening, the president will sign his first executive orders at the White House and attend presidential balls, including the Commander-in-Chief's Ball. Trump is expected to sign about 100 executive orders within hours of his inauguration.
The 78-year-old Trump replaced 82-year-old Joe Biden, who is leaving the presidency after one term. Because of the cold weather, the traditional outdoor ceremony was moved indoors to the Capitol, and the inaugural parade was replaced by bands. More than 4,000 law enforcement officers from across the country were deployed to keep order during the events.
