Ukraine and the World: Peace Talks, Trump’s Position, and Russia’s Threats

U.S. President Donald Trump announced negotiations with Russia regarding an end to the war in Ukraine, during which Putin expressed support for a ceasefire but proposed unacceptable conditions. Ceasefire Negotiations

US President Donald Trump said productive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ending the war in Ukraine. Trump urged Putin to "spare the lives" of Ukrainian soldiers surrounded by Russian forces, warning of a potential "horrific massacre."

Putin agreed to the idea of a 30-day ceasefire but outlined several "unacceptable" conditions. According to BBC reportedMoscow demands that Ukraine recognize occupied territories as Russian and cease all military actions without any security guarantees in return.

Ukraine’s Response

NATO and Ukraine

According recent polls, a majority of Ukrainians support alternative security guarantees instead of NATO membership if such guarantees include enhanced military assistance from Western allies.

G7 Warning

G7 nations stressed the need for reliable “security measures” to ensure the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. They called on Moscow to accept the truce, as Kyiv has already agreed, and warned of additional sanctions if Russia refuses.
