Shevchenko Evening Held in Orlando

The Ukrainian community of Orlando gathered at St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church to honor the memory of Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko, the Great Kobzar. The atmosphere of the event was filled with deep emotions and the prophetic lines of his poetry.

This was reported by St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church and CYM Orlando.

The event welcomed church parishioners, members of CYM Orlando (58th Branch "Ivano-Frankivsk"), and guests from the broader Ukrainian community.

"Shevchenko is not just a poet. His words are the voice of our freedom, our dignity, and our unbreakable strength. And today, as Ukraine once again fights for its right to independence, his verses remain just as relevant as they were two centuries ago," said one of the event’s organizers, Yaryna Levytska.

The evening featured Shevchenko’s literary works and songs based on his poetry. The children of CYM delivered moving recitations of Kobzar’s poems and took part in musical and artistic performances. An important part of the program was the participation of church parishioners and guests, who shared their perspectives on Shevchenko’s legacy and its significance in today’s world.

"This day brought us together around Shevchenko’s heritage, inspiring us to cherish our language and continue his mission—preserving our culture and history. Together, we are shaping the future that Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko dreamed of!" noted representatives of CYM Orlando.

The event was organized by Ukrainian Spirit by Yaryna Levytska and Chaikovsky Productions, ensuring that the evening became a true celebration of Ukrainian spirit. Special thanks were extended to everyone who contributed to the event, from artistic performances to organizing refreshments.
