A symbolic 5K run and walk titled “Honoring Warriors: I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine” took place in Philadelphia, bringing together Ukrainians and American friends to commemorate fallen defenders and support those still fighting for freedom.
This was reported organized by the IN UNITY community and the broader Ukrainian diaspora in Philadelphia.
“We run to remember. We run to honor. We joined this charity event, upholding the powerful Ukrainian tradition: ‘I honor the warriors, I run for the Heroes of Ukraine.’ Each of us ran in memory of fallen Ukrainian soldiers — remembering friends, loved ones, and family members who gave their lives defending our homeland,” shared IN UNITY.
The 5K route followed Philadelphia’s scenic Kelly Drive, with a turnaround point near the statue of General Ulysses S. Grant and a start near the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Participants had the opportunity to dedicate their run to a specific Hero — whether a loved one or an unknown soldier — by selecting a name through the Ukrainian Memorial website.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us in Philadelphia to honor our warriors and fallen Heroes! Your presence meant the world. I ran for my brother Ihor, who gave his life defending Ukraine,” shared runner and volunteer Nataliya DeMarco.
All proceeds raised by participants and donors were directed to Come Back Alive, one of the most trusted Ukrainian organizations supplying troops with protective gear and saving lives on the front lines.
“This run was not just about remembrance — it was an opportunity to give. Together, we raised vital funds to support those still fighting for Ukraine’s freedom. Your support matters. Your solidarity means the world,” the organizers concluded.
