The Lynden Sculpture Garden in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hosted a charity Easter egg painting workshop dedicated to Ukrainian Easter traditions. The Easter egg painting event was organised by Wisconsin Ukrainians, Inc. in partnership with the Lynden Sculpture Garden as part of the HOME at Lynden programme, which aims to support immigrants in US communities through creativity and tradition.

"Pysanka is not only a work of art, but also a powerful symbol of life, rebirth and harmony. Its ornamentation reflects the human connection to nature, history, and the belief in peace and prosperity," said Wisconsin Ukrainians, Inc.
According to Wisconsin Ukrainians, Inc., under the guidance of experienced instructors Amy Mulhall and Olesya Rogatinska, participants studied the art of creating pysankas, one of the deepest symbols of Ukrainian culture, which embodies life, rebirth, prosperity and protection from evil.
As part of the HOME at Lynden workshop series, the organisers sought to share knowledge of traditional Ukrainian crafts, so participants not only mastered the art of wax painting, but also learned more about the symbolism and sacred meaning of ornaments that have been preserved in Ukrainian tradition for centuries. In a cosy atmosphere, participants of all ages created real works of art, filled with personal meaning and a common belief in peace.

According to the organisers, the Easter egg making workshops allowed participants not only to master the technique of decorating Easter eggs, but also to delve deeper into Ukrainian culture and symbolism.

As part of the "HOME at Lynden" workshop series, the organisers sought not only to share knowledge of traditional Ukrainian crafts, but also to raise funds to help those affected by the war in Ukraine. All funds raised will be used to purchase medical supplies.
Background the HOME programme is an initiative of the Lynden Sculpture Garden to support refugees through creativity, education and community engagement. The HOME programme, of which this event is a part, supports community leaders, artists, volunteers and anyone else who wishes to participate in creating a space of support and creative interaction. As the Lynden Sculpture Garden notes, each HOME event is not only a cultural act, but also a step towards strengthening the community through solidarity, knowledge and art.
