USA: Trump Promotes Peace Plan with Territorial Concessions
US President Donald Trump statedthat “Crimea will remain with Russia” and hinted at the potential recognition of Russian control over other occupied territories. He blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for prolonging the war by refusing to negotiate with Putin. Trump also sent his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, for another meeting with Putin in Moscow.
Ukraine: Zelensky Rejects Concessions, Demands Full Ceasefire
President Zelensky statedPresident Zelensky declared that Ukraine will not recognize Russian control over Crimea and demands an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire. He also reportedthat the missile that killed civilians in Kyiv on April 24 was of North Korean origin, pointing to expanding military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
Europe’s Counterproposal for Peace
In London, Ukraine and its European partners offered the U.S. with an alternative plan to end the war with Russia. It calls for a complete and unconditional ceasefire on land, in the air, and at sea, under international monitoring led by the United States. The counterproposal demands the immediate return of all deported Ukrainian children, prisoners of war, and civilian hostages. Ukraine insists on receiving security guarantees equivalent to NATO’s Article 5. The agreement places no restrictions on the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and permits the deployment of allied troops on Ukrainian territory. Territorial issues are to be resolved after the ceasefire, based on the current line of control, with the return of Ukrainian control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the Kakhovka Dam, the Kinburn Spit, and unrestricted navigation along the Dnipro River.
Russia: Escalation Despite Talks
Despite ongoing discussions, Russia continues its aggressive attacks on Ukraine. Moscow carried out another deadly strike even after U.S. President Donald Trump called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the assaults. On April 25, a drone attack on the city of Pavlohrad killed three people, including a child. In southern Ukraine, two more people died due to strikes on Kherson. On April 24, a massive missile strike on Kyiv killed 12 people and injured over 90. Zelensky stated that these attacks are being used to mask Russia’s new offensive on the front lines.
Terror Attack in Moscow: Russian General Killed
In a suburb of Moscow, Major General Yaroslav Moskalik deputy head of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian General Staff, was killed in a car explosion. Russian investigators suspect Ukrainian intelligence services were behind the attack.
