Texas Celebrates 100th Anniversary of Ukrainian American Women’s Union

A celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian American Women’s Union (UAW) was held in Austin, Texas. The landmark event was organized by one of the newly formed branches – UWA Branch 147, which unites Ukrainian women from Austin and San Antonio.

Kate Voinova, President of UWA Branch 147 (Austin and San Antonio), told Vilni Media about this.

“Together we are building a community that unites Ukrainian women, families, artists, volunteers and all those who have not lost their love for their Motherland, even thousands of kilometers away,” said Kateryna Voinova.

She added that the Ukrainian community in Texas is growing rapidly, and the UWA plays a key role in preserving culture and providing support to newcomers.

“Today, Texas is becoming a home for an increasing number of Ukrainians, and our task is to help them find support, unity, and the opportunity to develop Ukrainian culture and traditions here. We believe that by working together we can create a strong Ukrainian community that sounds loud, acts harmoniously, and inspires others,” says the President of the Department.

The celebration took place in a warm atmosphere – with folk and original songs performed by Dmytro Shevtsov, Yulia Kucherenko, and Sasha Pelita. Albina Pozdnyakova’s poetry was heard, and the guests were filled with a spirit of unity and pride in the achievements of Ukrainian women.

“We are grateful that we found support and sisterly love and acceptance in each other so far from home and together we are writing the Ukrainian history of Texas,” Voinova summarized.

On the festive day, the participants not only honored the legacy of generations, but also opened a new page in history – with the involvement of new members in the ranks of the Union.

“In about two years, our branch has grown from less than 10 women to 20 active, inspired participants who volunteer, organize, create and support. Each of them brings something unique – and together we change the world for the better,” shared the impressions of the branch member Liliia Solomicheva.

On the occasion of the centenary of the Union, the branch shared the thoughts of Ukrainian female leaders – members of the organization, for whom unity, culture and inspiration have become life guidelines.

“Together we are not just women, but we are a force that changes the world around us”, – Nataliia Havryshko.

“Unity gives courage, and courage changes the world”, – Yana Nikutina.

“It is valuable to be in a circle of like-minded women who understand and inspire”, – Olha Sentiabova.

“Women have long played a leading role in Ukrainian culture and traditions, and our mission is to continue this honorable work,” – Darya Ledesma.
