Gabriel Park in Portland, Oregon hosted a celebration of one of the most mysterious Ukrainian holidays, Ivan Kupala. The event brought together dozens of participants who experienced the deep magic of Ukrainian culture through songs, dances, rituals, and fire.
This was reported by the organizers, DAWN Inc.
The outdoor event brought participants together in a circle of singing, dancing, rituals, and memories of the ancient beliefs of the Ukrainian people.
The program included traditional round dances, decorating the sacred Kupalo tree with ribbons, storytelling of ancient legends, and ritual performances.
Performances of Kupala songs by the choir "Lisova Pisnya" and folklorist Inna Kovtun added a special flavor, transporting listeners to a time when every word and movement held sacred meaning.
Participants wore embroidered shirts, wove wreaths, and jumped over nettles, believed to purify the body and spirit. Those who wove ribbons on the Kupala tree made wishes, hoping they would come true that night. As befits a true Kupala festival, there was also a search for wreaths, and maybe someone was lucky enough to find a fern flower.
"It was warm, joyful, and truly Ukrainian. It's nice to see how we come together, preserve, promote, and support our traditions and culture," said Inna Kovtun.
