The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) has called on the Ukrainian community in the U.S. to contact the White House and Congress with a demand to urgently adopt a comprehensive sanctions package against russia. This was reported by the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) with reference to a UCCA statement.
The statement emphasizes that the U.S. must support the adoption of the "russia Sanctions Act – 2025" (S.1241/H.R.2548), initiated by Senator Lindsey Graham. The initiative aims to increase pressure on the kremlin through sweeping economic restrictions.
The bill proposes 500% tariffs on imports from countries that purchase russian oil, gas, or uranium. It also outlines harsh financial sanctions against banks and officials of the russian federation, restrictions on energy exports and imports, and pressure on countries that provide economic or financial support to the aggressor.
The UCCA reminds that the European Union recently adopted a powerful sanctions package targeting the Nord Stream pipeline, the shadow fleet, restrictions on kremlin’s access to technologies, and sanctions against chinese banks cooperating with moscow. According to the organization, the U.S. should follow this example.
"The United States must also take similar steps and impose new sanctions that deprive the kremlin of revenue used to fund the war machine killing Ukrainian civilians," the UCCA statement says.
"UCCA and the Ukrainian National Information Service urgently call on all friends of Ukraine to act decisively: contact the White House and Congress with a demand to immediately adopt a comprehensive sanctions package against russia!" the appeal stresses. The statement also mentions the continued attacks by the russian federation on Ukraine's civilian population and the need to counter terror with strength.
