Russian drones have again violated Polish airspace, which has caused a wave of concern among NATO members about the readiness of the United States to act in the event of a direct threat. Meanwhile, Trump blocks sanctions, and his representative Keith Kellogg admits: the war could be stopped tomorrow - if China stopped supporting Russia. Zelensky demands decisive action, Ukraine becomes a leader in the field of combat drones.
Incident with Russian drones in Poland
After the attack of a UAV on the territory of Poland, doubts arose about the readiness of the United States to protect European allies in the event of a direct threat. According to Reuters, the incident caused alarm among a number of NATO member states, which began to review the stability of collective security guarantees. This concerns several drones launched from Russian territory that crossed the Polish border.
This incident was the first direct violation of the airspace of a NATO country in a long time, which, according to the logic of Article 5 of the Alliance, can be considered an act of aggression
Rubio: “The drones were launched intentionally, but it is not a fact that they were aimed at Poland”
Commenting on the situation with drones, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio labeled the incursion of Russian UAVs into Polish airspace unacceptable. At the same time, he questioned whether Poland was the target.
“There is no doubt: the drones were launched intentionally. The question is whether they were specifically directed at Poland,” Rubio said.
According to him, if the investigation proves a deliberate attack, this will be a “very escalating step” on the part of Russia. The US Secretary of State also called the incursion of Russian drones into Poland “an unacceptable, regrettable and dangerous development.”
“There are also a number of other possibilities, but I think we would like to have all the facts and consult with our allies before making any specific decisions,” Rubio added.
In turn, President Volodymyr Zelensky said, that the Russian drones against Poland are a warning not only to the Poles, but to everyone in Europe.
“Everyone who wants to end this war must do what is necessary to stop the Russian war machine. We are counting on strong steps from the United States, together with everyone, a strong sanctions and tariff policy. Something that will be an argument for many in the world,” Zelensky said
The US will not impose new sanctions against Russia due to Trump’s blockade
The New York Times report, that the US will not be able to impose additional sanctions against Russia because Trump is putting forward conditions that are unrealistic for European partners. Among them is a complete cessation of energy purchases from Russia.
Today, Hungary and Turkey remain the most loyal to Moscow within NATO, continuing to purchase oil and gas. Other European countries have reduced imports, but still depend on Russian gas, which Trump publicly ignores.
Keith Kellogg on Ukraine and China's role in the Russian war
Donald Trump's special representative, Keith Kellogg, said, that if China stopped supporting Russia, the war would be over tomorrow. He emphasized that it is China's economic and technological assistance that allows Moscow to continue its aggression.
“Russia has now become China’s junior partner. At the moment, we can say that China has both an economic advantage over Russia and a military advantage, and even historically. I will say more – if China completely cut off its aid to Russia – this war would end tomorrow,” the US President’s special representative said.)
In addition, Keith Kellogg also admitted, that Ukraine is now the world leader in the field of combat drones, while the US is seriously lagging behind both in terms of production and in the tactical integration of drones into combat operations.
“I was in the command centers, watched how their work is organized. From the outside, it looks like a video game: shoot a tank – go drink Coca-Cola… It is worth paying tribute to the Ukrainians – they have achieved a lot,” the US President’s special representative added, while in Kyiv at the 21st annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES).
