Doctors from the USA to perform complex reconstructive surgeries on children in Ukraine

American doctors arrived in Lviv to perform up to 20 complex reconstructive surgeries together with Ukrainian colleagues at the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital as part of the ninth international medical mission “Reconstruction Mission”.

This was reported by Christian Medical Association of Ukraine.

A team of maxillofacial surgeons from the USA has already conducted over 50 consultations, including 15 on orthognathic facial surgery, and over 30 on lip, palate and nose plastic surgery. Patients came from different parts of Ukraine, including frontline regions.

“Children from all over Ukraine came to the Center for Children’s Medicine, Okhmatdyt Hospital, with their mothers and fathers, to receive help with the most complex facial pathologies… Our doctors continue to study advanced technologies and, together with American surgeons, create a miracle for Ukrainian children…”, – Revived Soldiers Ukraine, at Lviv Okhmatdyt Hospital.

American doctors brought with them about 25 individual 3D-printed implants for six patients. The cost of one set ranges from 7 to 10 thousand dollars, but they are all provided free of charge. Such implants restore facial bone structures after injuries or congenital defects.

The medical mission is part of the long-term Reconstruction Mission program, which is coordinated by the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine Foundation within the EduCare project, with the support of Ed’s Friends, LEAP Global Missions and Razom for Ukraine. The program also includes renowned American surgeons John L. Frodel and John M. Sands, founder of the Advancing Residents of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (AROMS).

“During the last spring mission of 2025 in Lviv, the team was personally joined for the first time by representatives of the Razom Co-Pilot initiative, who coordinated the care of wounded patients – both adults and children – and supported a week of complex reconstructive surgeries on the face and hands at St. Nicholas Hospital and Okhmatdyt Hospital. A separate part of the mission was dedicated to working with nurses in the burn unit at St. Luke Hospital. There, our team held a roundtable discussion where Ukrainian nurses shared critical issues – from staff shortages to lack of recognition of their professional role… In total, 52 surgeries were performed and 150 patients were consulted during the mission. But the impact is much greater than just numbers,” – Revived Soldiers Ukraine, in Razom for Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the Reconstruction Mission initiative, medical care has been provided to over 900 patients – children and military personnel who required complex reconstructions. 24 countries and over 90 medical institutions from Ukraine and around the world are already participating in the partnership.
