A charity screening of the film “BozheVilny” was held at the St. Josaphat Banquet Centre in Warren, Michigan. All proceeds from the event will go to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported This was reported by the organizers of the event Help for Ukraine and Andriy Syniutka.

During the event, volunteers also sold snacks and organized activities for children, and all funds will be used to purchase vehicles, thermal imagers, drones and other equipment for the effective work of the Ukrainian military on the front lines.

“We proudly supported the charity screening of the film “Mad Men” – an event that united our community for an important cause. We thank all the volunteers for organizing such significant initiatives, thanks to which we can help Ukraine together. In times like these, our common unity and support are of particular value,” noted in Ukrainian Selfreliance Michigan FCU.

“Mad Men” is a 2024 historical drama directed by Denis Tarasov, based on real events and memories of Ukrainian dissidents and victims of Soviet punitive psychiatry.

“This film is perceived everywhere with similar emotions: they sympathize with the time we show, understand what the film is about, and what we wanted to say. Many at festivals even tie what is happening in the frame to the present,” said the film’s director, Denis Tarasov.

The plot unfolds in the 1970s and tells the story of a young music lover, Andriy Dovzhenko, who, due to his love for music banned in the USSR, falls under the repressive machine of the regime. From a simple protest for the right to self-expression, his rebellion turns into a fight for freedom and his own dignity.

According to the audience, the film received 7.5 points on IMDb, which makes it one of the highest-rated Ukrainian films of recent years. Among the mass scenes in the film are real patients of a Kyiv psychiatric hospital who participate in a theater studio at the medical institution.

It was also noted that despite the difficult topic - punitive psychiatry - the film managed to convey the atmosphere of Soviet repressions without excessive depression, "to enlighten without causing pain", as the audience noted. The plot is built on real facts - 99% of the script is based on the memories of witnesses.

“Another screening of the Ukrainian film “Crazy” by the Andriy Synyutka Help for Ukraine team! We thank all the organizers whose work makes these screenings and gatherings possible. The film is not easy, but very necessary,” Ulyana Dyakiv-Terletska, a participant in the event, shared her impressions.
