Ukrainian Journalist in the U.S. Receives Ukraine’s Highest Distinction for Women — the Order of Princess Olga

On the occasion of Journalist Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree awarding 37 journalists, media professionals, and employees of Ukrainian and international media outlets for their contribution to the development of journalism and for reporting the truth about Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Among those honored was Kateryna Lisunova, Media Advisor at the U.S.-based nonprofit organization Razom for Ukraine.

Kateryna Lisunova was among 37 Ukrainian and international journalists, media workers, and communications professionals recognized this year with state awards for their professional achievements and significant contribution to informing the global community about events in Ukraine.

In a statement following the announcement, Kateryna Lisunova shared her emotions about receiving the distinction.

“It is a great honor for me to receive the Order of Princess Olga, Third Class. Today is Journalist Day in Ukraine, and I am incredibly grateful to be among the 37 Ukrainian and international media professionals whom President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has honored with state awards. I know how hard and tirelessly all of us work, and it is very important to know that our efforts are seen,” she said.

The official statement from the Office of the President notes that Kateryna Lisunova spent many years working as a special correspondent in both Ukraine and the United States, actively covering Ukrainian issues on the international stage.

“Kateryna Lisunova, Media Advisor at the U.S.-based nonprofit organization Razom for Ukraine (Order of Princess Olga, Third Class). She worked as a special correspondent in Ukraine and the United States. She created the documentary film ‘Ukraine and the United Nations: Two Years on the Security Council.’ She became the first Ukrainian journalist to receive membership in the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA). She provides support to Ukrainian journalists within the UN system,” the official statement reads.

One of the journalist’s most significant professional achievements was the creation of the documentary film Ukraine and the United Nations: Two Years on the Security Council, dedicated to the work of Ukrainian diplomacy and international efforts to counter Russian aggression. Kateryna Lisunova also became the first Ukrainian journalist to gain membership in the United Nations Correspondents Association, enabling her to represent the Ukrainian voice in the international media environment and support the work of Ukrainian journalists within the UN system.

Today, in her role at Razom for Ukraine, Kateryna Lisunova continues to actively engage in advocacy and communications efforts on behalf of Ukraine in the United States. She promotes cooperation between the Ukrainian community and international institutions and supports media coverage of issues related to the war, humanitarian assistance, and Ukraine’s reconstruction.
