Ukraine House in Washington, D.C., hosted the presentation of the international project "Victory Rushnyk – A Nation’s Guiding Values," launched in Ukraine by Zoryana Leniv, Director of the International Institute of Inclusion. The initiative aims to spiritually unite Ukrainians across the globe around shared national values, historical memory, and love for their homeland.

Every participant had the opportunity to embroider several stitches on a traditional Ukrainian rushnyk during the event. Guests added elements of a pattern featuring the yevshan flower, inspired by the work of Mykola Voronyi, symbolizing remembrance of one’s homeland and the enduring bond with Ukraine. The artistic design was created by Andriy Yermolenko, a recipient of Ukraine’s Taras Shevchenko National Prize.
Launched in May 2024, the project has already traveled through ten countries—Poland, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Finland, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, and now the United States. After completing its international journey, the embroidered rushnyk will return to Ukraine as a symbol of the unity of Ukrainians worldwide and their support for their homeland.
Halyna Chechet, Director of the Taras Shevchenko School of Ukrainian Studies, welcomed participants and helped organize the event. Organizers also expressed special gratitude to Sofia Kachur, who brought the Victory Rushnyk to the United States and introduced visitors to its history, symbolism, and mission.
Members of Washington’s Ukrainian community, including students and teachers from the Ukrainian School DC, contributed their stitches to the embroidery. Organizers announced that the Victory Rushnyk will remain at Ukraine House throughout the following week, allowing visitors to add their own stitch and become part of the international initiative that connects Ukrainian communities around the world through the tradition of embroidery in support of Ukraine.
