Recent international events indicate the deepening of Ukraine's defense cooperation with Western partners. The focus is on the development of drone production, the creation of new air defense systems, diplomatic initiatives and increased international pressure on Russia. In parallel, the United States is analyzing new security risks that may affect the situation not only in Europe, but also in the Middle East.
The United States at the UN called on Ukraine and Russia to immediately return to negotiations
During a meeting of the UN Security Council, the United States called on Ukraine and Russia to cease fire and resume the negotiation process, emphasizing that there is no military solution to the war. The corresponding statement was made by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, Dan Negrea. He recalled the Russian missile strike on a civilian grain ship in the Black Sea, which killed ten crew members from India and Syria. According to the diplomat, these casualties could have been avoided if Moscow had agreed to the talks that US President Donald Trump had previously called for.
The US representative stressed that Washington continues to advocate for an immediate ceasefire and good faith negotiations between the parties to achieve a lasting peace. “There is no military solution to this war. Both Ukraine and Russia must return to the negotiating table. Too much blood has been shed. The world is paying too high a price for this war. It must end,” Negrea said. He also stressed that the United States is ready to continue to facilitate dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow. At the end of his speech, the diplomat sharply criticized one of the members of the Security Council, who, judging by the reaction of the French representative, probably represented the French side.
Ukraine plans to present a prototype of the European Freyja missile defense system in 2027
Ukraine expects to present a prototype of the new European Freyja missile defense system in the first half of next year, which should become an alternative to the American Patriot complexes. This was also reported by Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council David Aloyan, who coordinates the implementation of the project. According to him, the first meeting of the international steering committee will be held in the near future, which will determine the amount of funding for research and development. The project officially launched after the summit in Paris, where it was supported by the leaders of ten European states and leading defense companies.
Ukraine is ready to provide the project with a launcher and an interceptor missile, while the allies must provide modern radars, sensors and electronic guidance systems. The companies Eurosam, Leonardo, Thales, Saab, as well as the Ukrainian manufacturer Fire Point, which will become the main industrial partner, have already joined the implementation. According to Aloyan, the system will have an open architecture, which will allow different countries to integrate their own components depending on their needs. He also emphasized that the main goal of the coalition is a practical result, not political declarations, so special attention is paid to simplifying financing procedures and attracting business.
The Pentagon admitted: the US is significantly lagging behind Ukraine in the production of FPV drones
Ukraine plans to produce six to seven million small strike FPV drones this year, which significantly exceeds the current capabilities of the American defense industry. This was said by the chief operating officer of the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Division, Travis Metz, who manages the Drone Dominance program. According to him, the American program worth $ 1.1 billion by the beginning of 2027 will ensure the production of less than 200 thousand such drones. Metz admitted that the US is only forming its own production base, while Ukraine has already reached industrial production scales.
The official explained that additional difficulties are created by new requirements for the use of exclusively American components, which make it difficult to quickly increase production. The problem of providing semiconductors and other complex components remains particularly acute. At the same time, the Pentagon expects to use Ukrainian experience and has already invited six Ukrainian companies to participate in the Gauntlet II tests, which will take place in August. According to Metz, Ukrainian manufacturers must localize production in the United States in order to qualify for future American orders, and Washington itself in the future seeks to become one of the world leaders in the production of military drones.
Trump said that he would personally ask Putin about possible assistance to Iran
US President Donald Trump said, that he intends to personally find out from Putin whether the Russian Federation transferred satellite data about American military facilities to Iran. This is how he answered journalists' questions about the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about possible Russian assistance to Tehran during the preparation of attacks on American bases in the Persian Gulf. Trump said he planned to discuss the issue with the Russian leader soon. At the same time, he expressed doubts that such assistance could have been provided at the highest level.
The American president suggested that even if some information exchange took place, it did not have a decisive impact on the situation. “We will find out soon. I will ask Putin about it,” Trump said.
He also cited the example of the supply of Russian equipment to Venezuela, stating that it did not demonstrate high efficiency. According to the US president, even in the case of the transfer of certain data to Iran, this did not help Tehran maintain its military capabilities.
US delegation got acquainted with the combat capabilities of Ukrainian drones
The American delegation, led by the US permanent representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker, visited one of the units of the National Guard of Ukraine, where it got acquainted with modern Ukrainian unmanned systems. The delegation also included the commander of the NATO Special Mission for Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine, Lieutenant General Curtis Buzzard, and the US Chargé d’Affaires ai Sandra Audkirk. During the demonstration, the military and police showed the capabilities of reconnaissance, strike, evacuation and specialized drones that are already used in combat conditions. All flights were conducted without simulations, which allowed guests to see the operation of the equipment in real mode.
Representatives of Ukrainian companies also presented the latest developments, spoke about their adaptation to frontline conditions and constant improvement based on combat experience. Particular attention was paid to interceptor drones that are capable of detecting, escorting and destroying air targets. The Commander of the National Guard, Oleksandr Pivnenko, emphasized that it is precisely such technologies that play an increasingly important role in the fight against enemy drones and the protection of critical infrastructure.
Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Vyhivskyi emphasized: “Our unmanned systems are the result of the interaction of the military, the state and manufacturers, who are constantly improving their solutions, taking into account combat experience. We are grateful to our international partners for their support, because it is through joint efforts that we strengthen Ukraine’s security.”
