We have summarised the main points of the summit's final communiqué on direct support for Ukraine.
The main decisions:
The allocation of €40 billion in assistance to Ukraine in 2025 and the confirmation of Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO membership.
The Alliance supports Ukraine's right to choose its own security mechanism and will continue to support Ukraine's reforms.
Assistance to Ukraine:
NATO will have a dedicated unit to coordinate military assistance and training for the Ukrainian military - NSATU. A NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis and Training Centre (JATEC) will also be established.
Response to Russia's aggression:
NATO condemns Russia's attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure, including hospitals. The Alliance underlines Russia's responsibility for war crimes and human rights violations. NATO will never recognise Russia's annexation of Ukrainian territory and calls on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.
Threats from Russia and China:
NATO expresses concern about the strategic partnership between Russia and China, as well as military support for Russia from Iran and the DPRK. The Alliance condemns Russia's nuclear threats and its aggressive actions in cyberspace. NATO calls on China to end its support for Russia's defence sector.
NATO will extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance, but only when Allies agree that Kyiv has fulfilled all the necessary conditions.
