The Ukrainian national team won eight medals. Ukrainian Paralympians won 2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals. The athletes won medals in such sports as running, long jump, swimming and discus throwing.
Medals won by Ukrainians at the 2024 Paralympics on September 2
Swimmer Andriy Trusov opened medal day for the Ukrainian national team. He won a silver medal at the 2024 Paralympics. In the final meters, he overtook the Argentinian representative in the 400-meter freestyle in the S7 class.
Denis Ostapchenko won the 50-meter backstroke. The podium in this event was double for Ukraine. Sergiy Palamarchuk came third and the Ukrainians were joined on the podium by German Josiah Topf.
The next double success for the Paralympians was in the 50m freestyle: swimmers Ilya Yaremchenko and Oleksiy Virchenko won silver and bronze, and Maksym Veraksa came fourth.
Runner Igor Tsvetov won gold in the 100-meter dash at the 2024 Paralympics. He beat two Russians, Artem Kalashian and Dmitry Safronov, who finished second and third.
Oleksandr Lytvynenko won bronze in the Paralympic long jump. The Ukrainian Paralympian jumped 5.76 meters. The same result was achieved by the Brazilian representative, but he finished second in the additional events.
Track and field athlete Zoya Ovsiy won a bronze medal in the discus throw at the Paralympic Games. The Ukrainian threw 14.17 meters.
Ukraine's place in the medal standings
The Ukrainian national team climbed to 10th place in the overall team standings. The national Paralympians won a total of 35 medals, including 5 gold medals.
Ukraine's performance in Rio de Janeiro remains the best in the history of the Paralympic Games. There, in 2016, Ukrainian para-athletes won 117 medals (41 gold) and took 3rd place in the overall standings. In contrast, at the Tokyo Paralympics, Ukrainian Paralympians finished 6th with 98 medals (24 gold).
