The administration of US President Joe Biden is stepping up efforts to expedite the delivery of arms to Ukraine to ensure that all aid packages arrive before Donald Trump's inauguration.
This was reported by CNN citing a senior Biden administration official.
“The Biden administration is working to increase arms shipments to Ukraine in the final days of his term as part of a concerted effort to ensure Kyiv is on a solid footing through 2025,” the statement said.
These actions come amid recent statements by President-elect Donald Trump, who sharply criticized allowing Ukraine to use U.S. weapons to strike deep into Russian territory. According to an administration official, Biden's team is trying to ensure maximum delivery of the already announced arms packages before Biden leaves office.
“The Department of Defense is undertaking a historic effort to move massive amounts of weapons into Ukraine over the next five weeks. Between now and mid-January, we will deliver hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds, thousands of missiles, hundreds of armored vehicles, and other critical assets to Ukraine,” CNN quoted a Biden administration official as saying.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is in charge of coordinating the arms supply effort. In November, he said that, on the president's instructions, the Pentagon should “accelerate” the delivery of armored vehicles, missiles, artillery, and other weapons to Ukraine. The US Department of Defense is currently organizing both sea and air transportation to meet the deadline.
