Ukrainian art in the digital world: Ukrainian heritage of the sixties was displayed on Google Arts & Culture

Ukrainian art is becoming more accessible to the world thanks to a new project on Google Arts & Culture, one of the world's largest online art platforms. The platform presented the project - an online exhibition "60s. Lost Treasures". The initiative aims to introduce the world audience to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of twentieth-century Ukraine, especially the art of Ukrainian women artists who carried their talent through the political repression of the Soviet era.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Institute.

The project began with the publication of the stories of the project "60s. Lost Treasures" as part of the collection "Ukrainian Artists Through the Ages", which is dedicated to Ukrainian art and its prominent representatives. The first publication strike the story of the life and work of the artist Liubov Panchenko from the sixties, who made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian decorative art.

The project "60s. Lost Treasures" project highlights the works of Ukrainian artists of the sixties whose works were partially or completely lost due to political repression and censorship of the Soviet era.

In particular, the platform also presents the biography and works of Halyna Zubchenko, one of the leaders of monumental art, who created unique mosaics and stained glass windows free from Soviet ideology. Her style was characterized by brightness and symbolism.

You can also meet Alla Horska, an artist and active member of the human rights movement. She was brutally murdered by the Soviet authorities for her uncompromising stance on Ukrainian culture and language.

Liudmyla Semykina is an artist who was deprived of the right to paint for 20 years because of her pro-Ukrainian stance. Despite the ban, she continued her creative work in theater costumes and graphics. And sculptor, painter, and printmaker Oksana Pavlenko, who worked with ceramics and created monumental works on historical themes, became a symbol of resistance to the Soviet system.

"These female rebels in art were figures of a generation oppressed by the communist regime, who refused to conform to the boring stereotypical images typical of Soviet art and instead forged their own path - a challenge, but a unique one. Their bright, extraordinary and beautiful works can now be easily shown to their friends abroad," the institute said. Їхні яскраві, надзвичайні та прекрасні роботи тепер можна легко показати своїм друзям за кордоном”, – розповіли в Інституті.

The project is part of the "Ukraine is Here" initiative on the Google Arts & Culture platform, created in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. The goal of the initiative is to preserve and popularize Ukrainian art and culture. Through interactive stories, virtual galleries, 3D models of historical artifacts, video and audio content, Ukrainian culture is made accessible to the whole world.
