“Thank You for Standing With Ukraine”: 86th Annual Flower Mart Held in the U.S. Capital

In Washington, D.C., on the grounds of the National Cathedral, Ukraine presented a floral installation that became a symbol of gratitude, hope, and resilience at the annual Flower Mart charity festival, held this weekend at the Washington National Cathedral.

This was reported by the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States.

This is one of Washington's largest springtime events, organized by the All Hallows Guild on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral. This year marks the 86th edition of the festival.

The Ukrainian display, presented as part of the International Floral Display, was titled “Thank You for Standing With Ukraine!”

“Thank you for being with us. The war continues. We are grateful for your support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” read the description accompanying Ukraine’s stand.

At the heart of the composition — created by florist Holly Atarlington — were the colors of the Ukrainian flag, brought to life with blue delphiniums, irises, statice, and yellow sunflowers, roses, and solidago. Greenery such as podocarpus, myrtle, and salal symbolized hope, renewal, and resilience.

“‘Thank You for Standing With Ukraine!’ was inspired by the colors of the Ukrainian national flag. It’s an expression of gratitude from the people of Ukraine for the support we’ve received — but also a call to continue standing with us,” said Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova.

Background: Flower Mart is a traditional spring festival that has brought together Washingtonians and visitors since 1939 to support the gardens of the National Cathedral. The event combines an international floral exhibition, live entertainment, plant sales, musical performances, a children’s area, and access to the cathedral towers.
